Welcome, you, and you and you, and you three over there, and also you, welcome. Welcome to Vincent Macropod. Things you must know to proceed: Vincent Macropod is a webcomic; it updates on Wednesdays. It is here to tell stories that need to be told, stories about a kangaroo who for the most part could stand to be a little more thoughtful. It is a webcomic of the comedy variety, rather than of the arty variety. I quite like some of the arty webcomics, mind you! This just isn’t one of them.
I’m Matthew Kessen, the creator, writer, and artist of Vincent Macropod, by the way. Of no less importance to the proceedings here is Ms. Tracy McCusker, who does the colorizing and the website design. Here is a Vincent Macropod Fun Fact: I am reliably assured that Ms. McCusker spends much, much more time on Vincent Macropod-type projects than I do. And yet, I am the one who gets most of the credit! Ha ha! Funny on her!
I started drawing Vincent Macropod in 2003, mainly to entertain myself and a small group of friends. In late 2006, I started posting them, every Wednesday, on dimfuture.net, the senses-shattering pop-culture blog of Mr. Daniel Swensen. There, they continued to entertain basically the same small group of friends. And in early ’08, I decided to strike out on my own. What you see here is the result of that. (The dimfuture Vincent Macropod archive - with posts! - may be found on this site, now, as well as on that one; all the cartoons here from before mid-2008 originally ran there.) How do you like it so far?
In the spring of ought seven, I met Ms. McCusker, on Mr. Swensen’s now-defunct forum. She eagerly volunteered to color my comic, for reasons unknown to me. Later, she also designed this spectacular website, also for reasons unknown to me. But three cheers for her! Back on dimfuture, she’d usually post on Fridays, under some variation of the above banner. What sort of similar arrangement she might make here remains known only to…the future.
Another Fun Fact: At first, the comic was called “Vincent Macropod: Asshole Kangaroo.” I later dropped the last half, figuring a comic with no swear words in its title might be a tiny bit more marketable. I have, of course, not really sought to market it since that decision. I also have not in any way curtailed the profanity and gratuitous, graphic violence in the cartoon itself. So be advised! Unlike delicious “Trix” brand cereal, this is not for kids!
So that would be the basics, I’d say. The rest you should be able to figure out on your own, you clever so-and-so, you.
Oh, Lordy! Almost forgot! Special thanks to Aaron Engler and Elizabeth Conway! And also to everyone who has supported and/or inspired this project over the years – a list too long, and too awesome, to recount here! You know who you are! So do I! Hooray for you!
And finally!!! All Vincent Macropod comics, and their characters and so forth, are copyrights © of Matthew Kessen! Web design and colors by Tracy McCusker!
